Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens

Located in San Marino, the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens is one of the world’s great research libraries, with more than nine million items from different times, dating back to the 1000s through to the 21st century.

 

This location is home to lush botanical gardens spread over 120 acres, with a Japanese and Chinese garden, a desert garden, lily ponds and a subtropical garden. There is also the Huntington Art Gallery with collections of decorative art, paintings and sculpture from artists such as Gainsborough, Rogier van der Weyden and Andy Warhol.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour

Enjoy an informative studio tour of the Warner Bros. studio in nearby Burbank. Film enthusiasts can take a two to three-hour tour to learn about the craft of making TV shows and movies. Visit the Archive and Prop House, or the Sound stage for shows like The Big Bang Theory. Check out the costumes and props from movies such as the DC Universe or the Harry Potter series. Check out the sets of your favourite movies and shows like Central Perk in Friends, and cars like the many Batmobiles in the Picture Car Vault.

Disneyland Resort

A trip to LA would be incomplete without visiting the two theme parks at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim just outside the city. Linked by an outdoor shopping area, Downtown Disney, are the Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.  Disneyland Park is a theme park filled with lands and rides like the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean, alongside the Main Street parades and other attractions. The newer Disneyland California Adventure on the other hand has the thrill of Disney’s Pixar and Marvel movies, as well as the glamour of old Hollywood.

Venice Canals

A much smaller version of Venice’s canals, conceived by the developer Abbot Kinney, is the Venice of America. The waterways were originally built in 1905, but revitalised in the 1990s after they had fallen into disrepair over the years. In the area is now an attractive and pedestrian-friendly residential neighborhood, a few walks from Venice Beach. This beautiful spot features cute little footbridges, and ducklings in the water in summer. Visitors can enjoy waterside strolls or explore the area by boat.

Los Angeles is home to many culinary delights of Southern California. A few you would come across include, the French dip sandwich, which consists of a French roll dipped in gravy and stuffed with meat. It is usually served with a cheese topping and any choice of sides.  There is also the chicken parmigiana, which consists of a tomato sauce spread over breaded chicken breast and topped with cheese.
