Visit Museum Island

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Museum Island is a complex that is best explored over a 3 day period for those who have the time. A few museums at this location include the Pergamon museum, which is one of the most visited in Europe, which has Islamic art, Ishtar Gate and the Market Gate of Miletus among other artefacts. There is also the Altes museum which is home to Roman, Etruscan and Greek art collections. The Alte Nationalgalerie, a national gallery with artworks of Romantic, Neoclassical, Modernist and Impressionist origins, then the Neues museum of ancient Egyptian art, among others.

East Side Gallery

The artwork on the remnant of the Berlin Wall, otherwise known as East side gallery, is an attraction to street art lovers and others from all around. A visit to the city would be incomplete without seeing this heritage-protected landmark.

The open air gallery is 1316 metre long and has up to 105 paintings by artists from all over the world. The freedom of expression on this monumental part of the city makes it a memorial of freedom.

The Brandenburg Gate

An 18th century neoclassical monument, the Brandenburg Gate is one of the most significant landmarks of Berlin. A sign of reunification of the city, it stands as a symbol of peace and unity between eastern and western Berlin. 

This magnificent monument is usually top on the list of things to see in the city and also makes for great photos.

The Holocaust Memorial

A solemn and open space dedicated to the Jews murdered in Europe, the Holocaust Memorial is also top on the list of places to visit. It sits nearby the location Hitler hid at the end of WW II and significant to the city as well as all the lives that were affected during such a horrendous time. Designed by engineer Buro Happold and architect Peter Eisenman, it is a place of remembrance, and of warning.

Barcelona Cuisine​

Germany is home to lots of hearty and delicious dishes that are quite specific to its people. A trip to the capital would be incomplete without trying some.

A few you could expect to find include, currywurst, which is served with most street food, like bread rolls and fries. It is a mix of curry powder, tomato sauce and Worcester sauce. There’s also Wiener Schnitzel which consists of slices of veal, covered in bread crumbs, flour and egg and then deep fried. It is always served with potatoes, and can also be made with chicken breast or pork instead of veal. 

Another food to try is delicious senfeier, the ultimate comfort food. Made of eggs that are either hard boiled or poached served alongside mashed potatoes and covered in mustard sauce, this is one tasty German dish.
